The new edition of this book incorporates the recent remarkable changes in electric power generation, transmission and distribution. The consequences of the latest development to High Voltage (HV) test and measuring techniques result in new chapters on Partial Discharge measurements, Measurements of Dielectric Properties, and some new thoughts on the Shannon Theorem and Impuls current measurements. This standard reference of the international high-voltage community combines high voltage engineering with HV testing techniques and HV measuring methods. Based on long-term experience gained by the authors the book reflects the state of the art as well as the future trends in testing and diagnostics of HV equipment. It ensures a reliable generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. The book is intended not only for experts but also for students in electrical engineering and high-voltage engineering.
This book presents the current coil winding methods, their associated technologies and the associated automation techniques. From the introduction as a forming joining process, over the physical properties of coils, the semifinished products (wire, coil body, insulation) are introduced. In the process chain, different winding methods are used for magnet wire winding. Finally, the automation of these processes is described.
From the point of view of a user this book covers all aspects of modern electrical drives. It is aimed at both users, who wish to understand, design, use, and maintain electrical drives, as well as specialists, technicians, engineers, and students, who wish to gain a comprehensive overview of electrical drives. Jens Weidauer and Richard Messer describe the principles of electrical drives, their design, and application, through to complex automation solutions. In the process, they introduce the entire spectrum of drive solutions available and their main applications. A special aspect is the combination of multiple drives to form a drive system, as well as the integration of drives into automation solutions. In simple and clear language, and supported with many diagrams, complex relationships are described and presented in an easy-to-understand way. The authors deliberately avoid a comprehensive mathematical treatment of their subject and instead focus on a coherent description of the active principles and relationships. As a result, the reader will be in a position to understand electrical drives as a whole and to solve drive-related problems in everyday professional life.
A fully expanded new edition documenting the significantimprovements that have been made to the tests and monitors ofelectrical insulation systems Electrical Insulation for Rotating Machines: Design,Evaluation, Aging, Testing, and Repair, Second Edition coversall aspects in the design, deterioration, testing, and repair ofthe electrical insulation used in motors and generators of allratings greater than fractional horsepower size. It discusses bothrotor and stator windings; gives a historical overview of machineinsulation design; and describes the materials and manufacturingmethods of the rotor and stator winding insulation systems incurrent use (while covering systems made over fifty years ...
The mathematician and physicist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, (1824-1907) was one of Britain's most influential scientists, famous for his work on the first and second laws of thermodynamics and for devising the Kelvin scale of absolute temperature. Silvanus P. Thompson (1851-1916) began this biography with the co-operation of Kelvin in 1906, but the project was interrupted by Kelvin's death the following year. Thompson, himself a respected physics lecturer and scientific writer, decided that a more comprehensive biography would be needed and spent several years reading through Kelvin's papers in order to complete these two volumes, published in 1910. Volume 1 covers Kelvin's life to 1871, including his student days, his election (aged 22) as professor in Glasgow, his ground-breaking theoretical research on thermodynamics, his applied work on telegraphs including the Atlantic cable, and his involvement in a geological controversy about the age of the earth.
This thesis gives an overview of test bench design for inverter operated Medium Voltage (MV) drives with the focus on the active power measurement. The sources of measurement setup uncertainty are analysed and methods are shown to assess these uncertainties. Further, a possibility is shown to do quantitative uncertainty estimations which are verified with measurements through different measurement setups for MV drives operated with multilevel converters. The influence of measurement transducers, voltage dividers, power meters and data acquisition boards are considered. The digital signal processing is analysed and the possibilities to reduce its uncertainty contribution on an active power me...
Modeling and Control of Power Electronics Converter Systems for Power Quality Improvements provides grounded theory for the modeling, analysis and control of different converter topologies that improve the power quality of mains. Intended for researchers and practitioners working in the field, topics include modeling equations and the state of research to improve power quality converters. By presenting control methods for different converter topologies and aspects related to multi-level inverters and specific analysis related to the AC interface of drives, the book helps users by putting a particular emphasis on different control algorithms that enhance knowledge and research work. Present In-depth coverage of modeling and control methods for different converter topology Includes a particular emphasis on different control algorithms to give readers an easier understanding Provides a results and discussion chapter and MATLAB simulation to support worked examples and real-life application scenarios
This ebook is the first authorized digital version of Kernighan and Ritchie’s 1988 classic, The C Programming Language (2nd Ed.). One of the best-selling programming books published in the last fifty years, "K&R" has been called everything from the "bible" to "a landmark in computer science" and it has influenced generations of programmers. Available now for all leading ebook platforms, this concise and beautifully written text is a "must-have" reference for every serious programmer’s digital library. As modestly described by the authors in the Preface to the First Edition, this "is not an introductory programming manual; it assumes some familiarity with basic programming concepts like variables, assignment statements, loops, and functions. Nonetheless, a novice programmer should be able to read along and pick up the language, although access to a more knowledgeable colleague will help."
